City orientation

After a pleasant break at an alfresco cafe, continue exploring the capital’s lovely seaside neighborhoods at Roseneath and Karaka Bay, Evans Bay, Seatoun, Southgate and history fishing village of Island bay. The suburbs of Karori Sanctuary experience offers peaceful bushbox and native wildlife.
Sculptor Michael Tuffery produced the public artwork “Nga Kina” at Kumutoto Wharf in 2012 as a memorial to the Māori settlement that originally lived here. The artwork features nine huge green shells.

Around Wellington
Wellington is surrounded by several areas, including Porirua, Lower Hut, Upper Hut and Kapiti Coast. These areas, together with Masterton and part of the Wairarapa Mountains, make up the Wellington area.
Hutt Valley
Heading into the Hutt Valley, the cities of Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt have a lovely riverside setting surrounded by bush – clad hills. Visitors can enjoy the shops and cafes, golf courses, parks and Riverside walkways. There is trout fishing in the Hutt river or head into the rugged Rimutaka Ranges for a bushwalk.






Kapiti- Horowhenua region
The Capital’s northern gateway is the diverse Kapiti- Horowhenua region. Paraparaumu, Kapiti’s largest centre, has a world-class golf course and a popular vintage car museum. The beautiful beach at Paraparaumu is ideal for swimming, surfing and boating while, offshore, the renowned bird sanctuary of Kapiti Island is great for birdlife.
